Let’s go sailing, explore stunning waters and amazing islands in Greece! Join my fifth sailing adventure, an active and hands-on sailing retreat aboard Thalassa, a beautiful yacht with a modern sloop rigging. Enjoy the freedom and the comfort on a unique and adventurous journey starting from Athens.

What is the sailing retreat all about?

The Route

The trip is divided into four stages, each lasting one Week. You can join the entire journey or particular parts of it, such as one week only. Hop on and hop off is each Saturday. See: details about the route

Together with like-minded people, we sail our floating home from Athens along islands in the West Aegean Sea around Peloponnese into the Ionian Sea up to Corfu and via Corinth Canal back to Athens. Thalassa is a solid modern monohull boat, with new chart plotters and safety equipment for safe navigation. She offers showers, normal toilets, and cabins with comfy matrices for a sound sleep. The boat can fit up to eight people comfortably, offers a saloon, pantry, four double cabins and two showers. More information on the route here: Nomad Sailing Retreat

Safety first

Captain Uwe is an experienced sailor with him safety always comes first and he will make sure you can enjoy a pleasurable stay, kick back and relax to appreciate the beauty of such a unique journey. Many crew members have cherished the possibility to learn more about sailing, trying it hands on. Steering the ship, hoisting the sails and navigate along breathtaking views is part of the trip.

Stress relief

As Wallace J. Nichols describes in the book “Blue Mind”, it is a scientific fact that we feel better when we are surrounded, or even by looking at the water. It is a biological reaction to water by our brain. Sailing increases your feel-good levels of dopamine, serotonin and oxytocin, at the same time we also reduce the poisonous stress hormone cortisol. You’ll have lots of fun during this stress release sailing retreat, I am very certain about that! Check out the CBS report on Youtube.

Anchoring in Greece, sailing retreat in 2018

Visits on land

We will find great restaurants, many of them reachable only via boat, and explore the islands during day or night.

Learning to sail will enhance the experience and gives you the ability to immerse fully into the adventure. You will feel safer and understand the bits and pieces to ultimately enjoy sailing more deeply. We will form a sailing team of the course of our journey, connect with likeminded souls and have great fun out sailing.

Stargazing is very special when anchoring. At night the water calms down the soft motion of the boat and the surrounding is very pleasant to watch stars with no light pollution.

Retreat versus working on the boat

Yes, we will have WiFi at times and WiFi is generally available via 4G (when close to land), in restaurants, marinas or places we visit. It is completely up to you if you go off-line or if you like to stay connected. From past experiences we have noticed that working on a boat can be very tricky. Internet will not be provided as a service on this boat. Digital detox is appreciated.

Meet your tribe

This journey is for digital nomads, location independent people, entrepreneurs and people who carry the same spirit. There will be plenty of chances to connect to chat business and develop business ideas. This environment is very fruitful, projects like Coworking Bansko, as well as other projects, have been initiated on sailing trips, just like the one we are about to do. The calm environment might change your perspective and give you the possibility to look at your situation differently. You might be surprised what you can learn and take away from such a sailing adventure! We recommend joining for two weeks in order to fully enjoy this unique experience.

There is room for flexibility

The trip is planned to reach each milestone of each stage easily and allow amendments if in case we decide to hang out longer at one amazing place. For most of the nights we will anchor in beautiful bays around islands and the shore to enjoy the solitude. We have time to explore and savour the real sailing experience and freedom, offered by such a journey. During the day we are either sailing, swimming or exploring islands or the places on land. There is lots to do on a sailboat and the days are easily filled with action, relaxing, exploring, celebrating and you have time to connect with fellow sailors.

Swimming, snorkelling or SUP?

We’ll have the chance to swim in the ocean or in lonely bays, just as we wish. Feel free to hop on the stand up paddle board to explore own or to get some exercise whilest on water. Bring your snorkelling gear and dive into the blue. Doing stops for breakfasts, lunch or supper at random places has been appreciated many times. Or having a stop just to hang out is an awesome thing to do. You will have time and there is little distraction from outside, the chill factor is very high!

Make sure to stay long enough

One thing all the participants of past sailing retreats have in common, they all said “I had a fabulous time, but it was too short!” Make sure you plan a week longer that you initially thought, just to be sure not to have regrets later and also to create space for serendipity to happen. Watch the video above and understand what benefits the sailing retreat will convey to you. Comment or like it and let me know if you have any questions!
